Growing stuff is kind of natural to me because I love cooking and I am fascinated by seeing things grow. I guess that I was influenced by my grandmother who used to plant every seed she came across. Autumn in the countryside is synonymous with harvesting. Everybody’s busy gathering crops like corn, wheat, pumpkins, apples, and squash, which have matured throughout the summer. This season, typically spanning from late August to early December, is a period of intense activity as crops are reaped for food and animal feed, and fields are prepared for the following spring.   There’s nothing better than growing and eating your own veggies. Grow your own food to be self sufficient and become a sustainable Survivalist. The pleasure and satisfaction of growing your own vegetables at home it will make hard work seem easy! If you want to succeed, you’ll need to pay attention to five vital areas: light, soil, water, plant selection, and damage control. When these five issues are in balance, plants can thrive. When even one of these areas has a problem, your plants have a problem. Growing fruits, vegetables, and herbs at home offers many excellent benefits: Better Health and Nutrition • Enjoy fresh produce at peak ripeness with superior flavor and nutrition • Avoid harmful chemicals since you control growing methods • Grow your own heirloom varieties not found in stores • Fruits and veggies you grow can be more nutrient-dense than store-bought • Know exactly where your food comes from for complete peace of mind Financial Savings • Reduce your grocery bill by supplementing purchased foods with homegrown • Save money on organic produce by growing chemical-free plants yourself • Preserve your bountiful harvest through canning, freezing or drying for year-round savings • Start your garden with just a small initial investment in seeds, soil, and basic tools Sustainability and Self-Sufficiency • Grow your own fruits, veggies and herbs for improved food security • Require less storage and transportation when eating from your backyard • Use organic methods to avoid chemical fertilizers and pesticides • Compost plant waste and enrich your soil sustainably • Gain the skills and knowledge for greater self-sufficiency Personal Fulfillment • Many find gardening relaxing and a great stress reliever • Experience the joy and pride of nurturing plants from seed to fruit • Get exercise and fresh air while tending your backyard garden • Educate yourself and continuously expand your gardening knowledge • Share extra produce with family, friends and local food banks Now is the perfect time to enjoy fruits and vegetables. Fall might be my favorite season!
