@londonrealestate: Renting in England just changed forever. The Renters’ Rights Act is now law, here’s what it means for you. 🏠⚖️ #rentersrightsact #renting #london #lettings #property
My landlord can finally stop demanding 6 months payment upfront! They really be so greedy ugh

All completely normal and reasonable reasons. requiring 6 months is insane. I love the fact that they can't incite bidding wars. Why on earth could you increase rent more than 1 time a year. Insane that you could!

My landlord has been my landlord for 12 years because she is all this. Raised the rent once. ❤

Now smaller landlords will sell up. Blackrock buys all. All of you cheering don’t see the bigger picture. You will own nothing and be happy.

This isn’t all good. This will make it very hard to find somewhere that will rent to you if your job isn’t good or you aren’t financially strong. House prices will drop (good or bad depending on wether you own 😅)

I absolutely love pets and selfishly love the pet policy, but also, in fairness, I believe that if you want to rent with a pet, the Landlord should be able to include a sort of "cleaning/maintenance fee". Pets do get messy and many are stinky. Some people don't have high standards of cleanliness for animals.

Not all landlords are bad… some tenants are bad - this will make the bad badder on both sides - protection should be both ways as the cost of damage can be life changing

In the past a foreign student without any UK credit record could pay several months upfront to give the landlord some security that they will pay their rent. How can this be equalled in the future?

I agree with everything even though I'm not renting. It will prevent greedy landlords from being selfish and unscrupulous. I do not agree with pets though. Landlords should be able to refuse pets especially if living in a flat with a balcony which may be unsuitable for a cat. Housing associations have said no pets in flats so how would this work with private landlords?,
