Younger generations have normalized indulgence. We did not eat out, no soda, no bottled water, grew our own vegetables, no delivery services, one TV , no cable, no costly vacations (we went camping, in a tent). We had 3 bedrooms for 8 people and one functioning bathroom). If folks lived more frugally, prices would come down. It's supply and demand but commercialism has made us think wants are needs.

All I see in the comments is either defending the old or young. Stop it. Boomers did not hurt Gen Z. They can’t afford to retire. That’s why they don’t quit. But Gen Z can’t afford anything. It’s all of us against the billionaires

Boomer here. I couldn’t afford to go to college. Worked all my life to send my kids to college debt free. When I die, my estate is theirs tax free. Explain to me how privileged I am.

People always try to make the cheep house argument but they never talk about those $30K houses, 900 sf, 2-3 bed 1 bath for a family of 5! today’s young folk think they need the 2800sf 4 bed 3 bath starter mansion for a family of 3! Young folks think they need to start life where their folks are ending life after 40-50yrs of hard work!

I don't understand the whole boomers won't sell their house argument. If they sell, theu need to buy a different one. It's not like there will be an extra house available unless you are asking them to sell and become homeless???

As a 66yo Boomer, this argument bores me. Yea I bought my first house for 65k, 8% interest. Over the years traded up and now have a house I’ve lived in for 33 years. I’ve remodeled it twice. Was able to afford it by not eating out, mowing my own yard, driving 13 and 20 yo cars. Made my son pay 50% of his own college..no loans. I retired last year but was hired back because NO MILLENIAL GEN X wants my job! They’re not willing to put in the hours or work to push me out. This is what frustrates me. Do better, make me quit because you can replace me.

You have absolutely no ideal about boomers. Many of us have to continue to work to eat and cover medical cost. If you can’t work, then we have a fixed income that doesn’t stay up with the cost of living. We have to make a choice at times between medicine that keeps us alive and food. We didn’t go to college. That was for the wealthy. If we went we paid it by working 2-3 jobs. We never went out to eat or entertainment. We prioritized the future not the now. Your age want it all right now, we saved to work for it, no one gave it to us.
