I went to a parish where they made their own with little cubes of bread. It was awful because of so many crumbs. I spent minutes finding every piece of Jesus in my hand after communion. And I’m sure you could have a holy hour with the carpet there.

I have no objection to Catholicism but it is empirically a fact: Episcopalians have better bread. Sourdough Eucharist FTW!

That’s interesting. I’ve never seen it other than wafer form in places except orthodox churches. Even in the Vatican.

We used to make our own communion bread at my church! There was a recipe and rotating baker. I miss that so much 😭 a new priest came in and put a stop to it 😤

I served communion with real bread once. The way people grabbed the whole loaf to tear off a piece then dunked multiple fingers into the juice. Now I try for as small a piece as possible

We used to have a teen mass that was for teens especially but someone made the bread that Father would use for communion

Wow this is fascinating. Question for me then becomes why every Catholic Church I've ever been to uses the white wafers? Am I hearing correctly that we 'technically aren't supposed to?', and should be using actual bread? great series BTW!

For my daughter’s first communion the class made the bread. It was a disaster. It was all over the floor, pews, everywhere. My poor daughter received a very large piece. She looked kind of desperate and said quietly”I got a whole loaf.”

Everyone receives the the entirety of Jesus Christ in even a crumb of the Eucharist. No priest is keeping it to their self.
