I completely agree with this I just see religion as a coping mechanism and with believing this I see the “need” for it and also pity religious people because I don’t believe their “Gods” are true. I think it’s sad to have to step away from logic and reason in order to cope with life regardless of understanding why they do it. I was once religious and I understand the fulfilment they feel but I always feel like I’m on the outside just watching programmed people. I find my peace in understanding the idea of absurdism and optimistic nihilism. I also think the reason there isn’t much of a “community” within atheism is because we understand how easily things can become “culty” and do not want to find ourselves in those situations, there’s a subconscious fight against “group beliefs” because it may alter individual thinking.

I think all the Bureaucracy and Mediation between us sort of dehumanizes us, we don't all get to work with our own personal agency and have to work together as a system, but also we've been put in some sort of imaginary ranked competition.

As a trivial addendum, I don’t think community in the sense we’re talking about here can be removed from a sense of place. That geography can be massive, hold space for incredible diversity & pluralism, but the community cannot be taken off the map & relocated in digital space without breaking something load bearing
