Are BSB interacting with fans from the Sphere stage? It's a much different setup than I've seen NKOTB do.

It’s a weird comment when you consider NKOTB doesn’t even do individual meet and greet events, like BSB does. You can only do it in groups. I’m not sure how to take this either, but BSB has plenty of fan interaction so it’s def a weird thing to keep referencing.

I think you’re over thinking it. Their Vegas residency is fantastic. It’s the way I would have expected an awesome NKOTB show to be. I have friends who are BSB and New Kids fans and have been on both cruises. They’ve said BSB doesn’t get as close as NKOTB does on the cruise. The meet and greets are warm and lovely with New Kids too

As a fan of both BSB & NKOTB I totally get what they’re saying - I don’t think they intended it as snobby… both groups are AMAZING and experiencing them live is a different experience depending on which group you’re seeing. NKOTB literally go out into the audience during their shows which the sphere wouldn’t allow as easily is what they were saying I think. Either way I love that they both have residencies currently! ❤️❤

I love both bands. But. I can see what Donnie and Joey are saying. Backstreet management has kinda turned more towards money grabs. And interactions are with those are paid for. New kids go into the crowd up top. And I’ve never done new kids vip and met 3 out of 5 new kids! I think you are over thinking it

It giving very negative vibes from NKOTB. I felt very connected to the guys being on the floor and like you said in the 200’s. As an *NSYNC girly and throwing myself into the BSB world with the residency, I keep telling people how impressed I am with how much they interact with their fans. I don’t think what they said is true at all, but they also haven’t been to a show which is strange because AJ and Howie made it a point to go to their residency.

as someone old enough to be a fan of both from the original runs, I think you're overreacting. I don't think they're insulting bsb or the sphere. everyone has to market themselves and sell people on what's unique about the experience they provide. everything is expensive and money is tight. new kids being older they have to market differently and are more dependent on nostalgia. and the sphere isn't just a venue, its basically part of the experience, and that's just not ideal for every act.

I agree. I don’t like it. It comes off kind of pompous. I’ve seen multiple BSB members take the time out during AP and VIP events, and the Sphere show, to interact with fans. So I don’t get that comment about lack of interaction.

i wouldn’t take this too personal tbh! i like both bands (more bsb) and it is true nkotb spends alot of time in the crowd. bsb of course is great with fans but their shows dont center on fan interaction (not a bad thing). nkotb doesn’t really do choreo like bsb does so they’re able to spend less time on stage and more time in the crowd. and bsb is focused on choreo and vocals but also utilizing every part of the venue and tech as much as they can. nkotb doesn’t really do that at all so it isn’t for them at all. and thats okay, i think its just a matter of joey and donnie knowing strengths and weaknesses for their group

As a die hard NKOTB fan, and a fan of BSB, this is my take. I have been to see both bands live. It is very apparent that both groups strive for a different result. This is what I think the guys are talking about. It has nothing to do with Donnie and Joe insinuating that BSB doesnt really interact with their fans, its all about the goal of the show, and how they want everyone to feel when they leave. BSB puts on a massive production. For me, what I have seen online of their Sphere show, the visual effects, yes they are amazing, but they are too distracting. Their dancing is on point, and they harmonize better, but they put on a big show. The New Kids are old school. GenX to a fault. Their shows prove that. They want their audience to leave not in awe of what they saw, but in awe of how they feel. Their residency is all about nostalgia. You cant do that at the Sphere, its impossible. What it comes down to is generational. BSB come from a different generation, and they know how to work that generation. Same with NKOTB, their generation is all about connection, and their residency proves that. Just my opinion.

It comes off badly only to people who don’t get what they mean and are looking for drama. What NKOTB fans want from them does not fit the atmosphere of the sphere. They are different types of shows. Both bands know and understand their fan bases. Why are you looking for something to be offended by? It’s a lot of unnecessary energy being spent on negativity.

I think the interviewers are to blame for asking/comparing them in the first place, and possibly are trying to create some drama between the fan groups for no reason. they might both be boy bands, but they are very different in how they put on shows. I wouldn't be surprised if both Donnie and Joey were caught off guard with the question and just didn't have time to really think through what they're saying. I love BSB and enjoy New kids, (though I love Donnie) and I don't see Donnie (or Joey for that matter) ever being intentionally rude about anyone, let alone a band that they call their friends. they just have different approaches to performing. and I know BSB interacts a lot with fans, but maybe the new kids don't see or realize how much they interact since they're not exactly in the fandom. 🤷🏻♀

The level of audience interaction that NKOTB is not to be compared with other boy bands. And that’s fine that’s their style. BSB is nowhere near the level of interaction that NKOTB has at their shows. Don’t twist my words either, BSB interacts with their audience but not in the same way NKOTB does.

I am an outsider (*NSYNC fan here) the Sphere does seem very overstimulating and my motion sickness could never 😩 but there doesn’t seem like there is a ramp that takes the stages into the arena, that I’ve seen. If NKOTB likes to have ramps maybe that’s what they meant? Can BSB give high fives from the Sphere stage?

I totally agree with you, I feel their comments were unfortunate. From my pov, The Sphere is not about "watching them in the focus" is about get immersed WITH them, in the universe that they created for US. For me, that is exactly the purpose of being involved with your fandom in a meaningful way and I love it. 🩵✨

oh pleeeease, if they were offered to do the Sphere they would do it, because it's good for popularity and I'm pretty sure the Boys are getting a pretty penny for it. most artists interact with front rows while there are fans nowhere near it that don't get interactions. it happens in all shows and Sphere is not an exception, the sphere just offers an experience that might not be to everyone's liking

I’m a huge fan of both bands, NKOTBSB was an absolute dream for me. I’m heading out in February to see both bands in their Vegas residencies. As a huge fan of both bands I feel I can be non biased on your opinion of what you are saying. New kids are not as big worldwide as BSB are and I agree with Joe & Donnie that the sphere wouldn’t be right for them, the new kids do like to get in the crowds and interact a lot. I feel like BSB are so big they have limits to amount of interactions they can make. I cannot wait to watch the boys at the sphere but I definitely feel like the New kids show will feel a lot more intimate. I agree that the BSB meet & greet is more intimate, the new kids meet & greet you take a photo with the band and 9 other fans at the same time, however I have bought the meet & greet as I’m coming form the uk and it’s a dream to meet them, I paid just over $400 however I can’t justify $1000 for a BSB meet & greet as much as I would love to meet them too. So yes a BSB meet is more intimate but it reflects in the price.

I’m not a NKOTB fan and I have only seen them live for the NKOTBSB, so I’m not sure how their concerts are. But I agree, what they said has come off wrong. Maybe they should have made the time to see BSB at the sphere before they had made a comment, regardless if it’s their PR team speaking or them. Hopefully we get to see them at the upcoming shows at the sphere.

I'm a fan of both groups and I agree with you. It's kind of weird that New Kids are saying that BSB aren't interactive with their fans. They are! BSB are selling very well and NK are not to be blunt. I love New Kids also but both shows are great and it's not a competition.
