RIP Kit Kat. This is tragic but a waymo is 80% to 90% less likely to get into injury causing accidents then your average human driver. Humans cause way more deaths

A computer should not be making moral decisions or decisions that put lives on the line (like driving) because a computer cannot be held accountable. Also, there is not computer that is going to be more aware and functional than a RESPONSIBLE driver. Frankly I think theres already too many humans driving who arent responsible enough to do so, let alone a self driving car.
