@morefunwithbears: FIVE ARTIST FRIDAY | Part 85 This week at the Art Gallery of Mississauga, an exhibition opened that includes one of my works, a large piece made from 475 pinback buttons carrying slogans that promote the inclusion of LGBTQ people in the leisure sport of ice fishing. When you stand back, the many small buttons, each representing a facet of queer identity, come together to form a giant fish. The image underscores a simple idea: when diverse communities gather behind a shared cause, they become a formidable force. That got me thinking about other artists who use many small parts to make something whole. Whether it is pins, photographs, buttons, or bits of broken glass, there is a quiet power in the way these fragments accumulate into something larger. Each part carries its own story, yet together they speak of belonging, persistence, and beauty in repetition. Here are this weeks picks: Helen Marshall uses thousands of individual photographs to create monumental portraits that celebrate collective identity. Her works remind us that representation can be a shared act, built from the lives of many. Eric Daigh turns ordinary push pins into pixelated portraits. Each tiny point of colour adds up to a human face, transforming everyday materials into something both personal and precise. Anne Schwegmann Fielding reimagines discarded objects such as crockery, glass, and tools into luminous mosaic sculptures. Her work transforms what is broken into something newly radiant. Lisa Kokin stitches and binds fragments of books and photographs into intricate collages that merge memory and form. Her pieces suggest that our stories are always interwoven, never singular. Ran Hwang builds vast installations from thousands of pins, buttons, and beads, often forming birds in flight. Her art captures patience and meditation, where repetition becomes both structure and grace. If you enjoy discovering artists who transform the small into the spectacular, share this post and follow for your weekly dose of contemporary art. Have a great weekend! #art #contemporaryart #fyp
