Hello, DH Cosplay crew for 5 different DH events here. all words and opinions are my own and do not represent Dreamhack. This Halloween costume contest was **NOT** a craftsmanship cosplay contest. We tried to differentiate that a "costume contest" is NOT the same as a "cosplay contest" This is why you had Dwight Howard, Extra Emily and Kiara Hololive as "Judges" and it was overall a community vote. the whole "golden ticket" and being "secretly chosen" was so the participation pool could be random enough but also garnered a variety of costumes. I personally gave my golden tickets to the Hololive cosplayers because I wanted them to be noticed by Kiara. Because I myself also like Hololive/Vtubers overall. I've been through ENOUGH trauma working DH cosplay comps but I can assure you, this whole Halloween thing was something I expressed as a really bad idea from the start with the already bad rep Dreamhack had. I hear you and I totally get the sentiment. It's unfair when "contests" are just a popularity contest and do not recognize real talent or craftsmanship. But I also want to clarify that Friday's contest was to be a hehe little Halloween costume contest just for funsies and not to be taken so seriously when the audience gets to vote.

I've been saying for years. Stop participating in Atlanta cosplay comps. They almost always disappoint and incorrectly judge talent. Literally have had too many talented friends get screwed over in Atlanta cons but actually place in other states.

wow, I'm watching a vod, but it looks like only one of the judges (Kiara, the vtuber irl) is a cosplayer and she seemed a little disappointed that the baby won. but they didn't even give the Corpse Bride couple a chance, that was pretty bogus

If I'm understanding correctly, it was more of a runway style show with no pre-judging? If that's the case, then anyone can win purely based on vibes and what the judges like. If you want entries to be judged based on their actual work, you'd want to be entering craftsmanship centered contests with pre-judging! 🙏

I have been a cosplay judge for about 2 years now and we would have never let that baby win first place because honestly the other cosplayers look amazing i would half to do prejudging in order to decide who did the most work on their cosplay but my choice would be the most work and most love put into the cosplay. sure I'll make a separate category like an Honorable, mention. , specifically for babies , because babies aren't fair for adults because babies can't win anything.It always goes to the parents

this is insane lol I always debate going to dreamhack and every year I hear things like this that make me second guess it. genuinely this is why craftsmanship contests are an important of cons lowkey to me they are the most fair competitions
