These numbers led to the “deporter-in-chief” label for his administration, especially as attention focused on expedited removal of recent border crossers and individuals with criminal records. Despite the high totals, the administration shifted policy toward prioritizing removals of noncitizens who posed clear threats to national security or public safety, or who had recently crossed the U.S. border.
