Most likely caused by a low coolant level, a failing thermostat, or a clogged heater core. When your car just idles there isn't enough coolant flow to heat the air, but when you push the gas the increased flow sends hot coolant to the heater core, and you feel the heat. Hope this helps.

I just had the same issue in my ranger. its a possible air pocket or it could be low coolant or some kindve small blockage somewhere. but im also not a mechanic. I pulled my rad cap off turned the vehicle on let it warm up and topped the rad off not the secondary overflow box. and it fixed the issue. also my top rad hose was suctioning shut before I did this.

Vaccum line to the dampener door for fresh air intake to the cabin. This Vaccum line runs to the temperature control knob on the panel.
