I live in Florida so definitely not an expert but I know heat rises so, just wondering if it would be better to seal the top and leave ventilation on the bottom of the coop. 🤷‍♀

Just keep it dry! Moisture causes frostbite, and hypothermia, not just the cold.

They will most likely be fine. Make sure no drafts (but good ventilation) where they roost...with a wide roosting bar (and should be wooden). And ideally no food or water where they sleep. Otherwise they are hardy creatures. Any with bigger combs or wattles could get some frostbite during super cold temps. But keep in mind they are walking around in down coats! I live in Missouri where we get negative temps and mine still walk about in the snow (if they chose too!)

Chickens are pretty resilient. I’ve had mine for several years. I do a nice cleaning and put shavings in. Then I don’t clean until spring. This will help with their floor insulation. Feeding them a rough food like corn helps them with their body temps too. They’ll be fine.

I’m mid Michigan and just added plastic as well and left my upper area open on both south n north end then in my coop I added a small fan to help exhaust the moisture/humidity to prevent frost bite on the hems combs. I also added straw in the run and coop to the ground isn’t so cold and their feet

As long as they are a heritage breed chicken, they should do fine. They’re big thing is frostbite and they normally get frostbite when they can’t get off of the ground or they get wet and can’t be somewhere dry…..
