I have 2 kittens, and have had cats for over 20 years , and raised a child. Never had an issue. Best solution? You flatten the roll a bit before replacing it, it doesn’t unwind. Proper roll placement is over the top.

The mullet excuse doesn't work if they pull down the dangly piece of toilet paper in the back. I have kids and cats. It doesn't not stop them from making a mess if they want to. The original patent says it goes beard style.

it honestly depends on who and what lives in your house no pets/kids over top is more convenient but having them backwards is better it honestly just comes to living situation

it all depends on if you have cats, but ours don't go after the toilet paper so we hang it like a beard

your kids and cats don't change the fact that for the person using the toilet its optimal to have the flap in the front. Having to adjust your life style is a different issue.
