@sarahspikeston: We could explore adding dad to the birth certificate to fulfill that requirement (we know dad and are in communication). But the requirement also says both parents have to be present for the meeting. Both biological parents? Both guardians? We may need to speak with a lawyer that specializes in this. #laywer #dualcitizenship #birthcertificate #guardianship #mexico

My concern would be that the trial court also terminated the parental rights of the "unknown father" / bio-dad at the time.

She’s not eligible unless he’s on the birth certificate. Establish paternity and then go from there. End of story. There’s no way around this. They are extremely particular about documentation for dual nationality

my dad wasn’t on my bc & my mom was not alive anymore. we did the route through my mom’s side, essentially granting my mom citizenship first and then me after. it would’ve cost over 1k to amend my bc to add my dad 💀

She’s not eligible. You need consent from the father to add it to her birth certificate, the process might be costly.

If you add him he’d then have to accompany the child to the consulate to sign paperwork.

Mom lost her legal rights? As in terminated fully? Or just custodial? If terminated fully, whoever has legal guardianship over the child, would probably be allowed to join that meeting. As long as you have legal paperwork backing up the guardianship and allowing you to speak for the child. I appreciate your post because my son's dad is a legal immigrant here, but a Mexican citizen and I just realized we can get him dual citizenship from your post. It's not something I really considered before. But it's not a bad idea.

let's just say it's not happening, it's already hard enough for people to get dual citizen ship, let alone for someone to get it when they don't have any proof or the right documents for it

my recomendadion would be to get the dad on the birth certificate BEFORE she turnes 18 . once dad is on birth certificate she can get the mexican nationality if she goes in turning 18 or if dad does it etc.

The legal problems you would invite into your life are not worth the thing you are trying to accomplish. It’s a cute idea but this family has bigger fish to fry.
