its the same idea as putting more clothes into the dryer, micro waves zap out the water of whatever is inside so the more food there is then the more water moisture needs to be evaporated. spacing the food helps but doesnt necessarily make it equal to just 1 piece rather then 10 pieces. p.s I didnt look this up... I did however double check if the dryer concept was similar and it is.
