The International Criminal Court (ICC) has officially issued an arrest warrant against Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa. This was confirmed by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla on Saturday, November 8. Remulla said he received credible information confirming the ICC’s move against the senator. He also noted that the new extradition rules released by the Supreme Court on October 1 could affect how the process will proceed, as the alleged crimes are now considered extraditable. Despite the confirmation, the Department of Justice (DOJ) clarified that it is still verifying details about the reported warrant. DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said the department has “not yet seen or received a copy of said arrest warrant” and will provide updates once information becomes available. Remulla, who previously served as DOJ secretary, made the statement earlier in the day. His brother, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, also said that no red notice from Interpol has been issued against Dela Rosa so far. “As per the Center for Transnational Crimes, there has been no red notice issued by the Interpol as of 10 minutes ago,” he said. The ICC warrant is reportedly linked to Dela Rosa’s role as Philippine National Police chief during the early years of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs — a campaign under investigation for alleged crimes against humanity. The same allegations were the basis for the ICC’s arrest warrant against Duterte, who is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands.
