Brown the beef Heat oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Add beef cubes and brown them on all sides. Remove beef and set aside. 2. Cook the onions and garlic Add onions to the pot and cook for 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. 3. Build the gravy Add the beef back to the pot. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Add onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and thyme (if using). Stir and bring to a boil. 4. Simmer Cover the pot, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 30–40 minutes until beef is tender. 5. Thicken the gravy In a small bowl, mix flour and cold water until smooth. Slowly pour into the pot while stirring. Let simmer uncovered for 5–7 minutes until gravy thickens.
