I went from a “plan” to have my daughter fully natural, at home, in water, free-birth, with an intimate and personally chosen team of holistic doulas, midwives, and my love. What really happened, is that i went into labor and delivered my daughter naturally at 22 & 1/2 weeks pregnant. Her current living quarters is at the NICU until she’s “ready” to exit. & Im facing the biggest mother challenge (for me)— and I dont see a lot of brown women talking about this online and if they are out there…. Please point them out. ✨🙏🏽 The challenge is being the mother to a “micro preemie”. That challenge is having to surrender to the care of medical physicans 24/7. Having to surrender to exams, procedures, or practices that you dont connect to. Meeting the medical team in the middle to work together on behalf of your child, and the constant tug of war at each milestone step to adcovate for your newborn baby. Motherhood is a challenge— all on its own. But there are variables that add even deeper layers to that challenge, and I am facing and experiencing one of those deep layers. I would love to hear the success stories of NICU babies in your experiences, and also any tips or support systems you can suggest for a new “NICU Mommy”.
