By the laws of the state whoever is listed as the owner at the vet is the legal owner

oh no, is this about Tobin?? legally though, you have the rights to him. as someone above said, they rely heavily on who takes them to/pays for vetting.

I’d be afraid she’d try to transfer papers out of your name but I believe you are safe in terms of her being able to just come take the dog

Without a contract spelling out what each party can and can’t do, possession rules. Meaning whoever has the dog and is caring for it is presumed the rightful owner unless proven otherwise. Sounds like all documentation is in order showing proof of who takes care of the dog and who has possession. This would basically be a civil dispute of property if it ever went to court.

Dogs are considered property in most states, so if on paper there is no “co-owner” than there is no co-owner and this person has no legal rights to your dog. Put a tracker collar on him, if they take him call the police for stolen property

given the lack of a contract, and vet records being in your name I highly doubt it

I don’t know what your contract looks like, and I dont know if you are familiar with the “Oscar Project” but there was a case last year over co ownership of a Cane Corso named Oscar, I believe this case was heard in front of the Kansas Supreme Court. There might be valuable information about co ownership, and it appears that “The Oscar Project” on fb is dedicated to helping owners understand the laws around co owns, while advocating for them, and protecting owners. This sounds really stressful, sending you good thoughts.
