Ive had people tell me since Im allergic to all tree nuts - for the reasons you explained-I shoildnt have coconut, mango, peaches etc but actually those are all fine. Peanuts are fine for me too

allergies are often due to a protein structure in the food, so they likely have a similar protein structure.

I’m allergic to almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, and coconuts! Not allergic to mango, cherry or peaches. I am allergic to cucumber, celery and all varieties of melon, mostly all majority water based fruits. Also very allergic to poison oak, I had a very bad reaction as a child.

Your immune system will recognize a specific structures, and if these “tree nuts” have similar protein structures, despite being in different families, that could cause allergens. It’s similar to how some people with a Latex allergy might have a reactions to bananas as well because they have proteins with structural similarities. It’s cross reactivity!

hi botanist here, cashew nut allergies are not related to urushiol allergies (poison oak, poison ivy, poison sumac, mangoes, cashews) cashews are steamed open so they dont get urushiol on them
