@egibert666: The Hawker Hunter is a classic British transonic jet-powered fighter aircraft developed for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Known for its exceptional performance and graceful design, it was the first high-speed jet with radar and fully powered flight controls to go into widespread service with the RAF. The Hunter proved highly successful and was widely exported, serving with 21 overseas air forces, including those of India, Sweden, Switzerland, and Chile. Nearly 2,000 units were manufactured by Hawker Aircraft and its successor, Hawker Siddeley. It saw extensive comb4t in various global conflicts, notably the Suez Crisis, the Aden Emergency, and the Indo-Pakistani W4rs of 1965 and 1971, where it proved an effective and rugged ground-attack platform. The Swiss Air Force operated the Hawker Hunter from 1958 until its retirement in 1994, with a total of 160 aircraft in service. Initially acquired as an interceptor to replace de Havilland Vampires, it later transitioned primarily to a ground-attack role, and was a key aircraft for over 30 years before replaced by more modern aircraft like the Northrop F-5E Tiger II and Dassault Mirage III. Due to the small size of the country and potential unserviceable airstrips, Swiss Air Force jets, including the Hunter, practiced take-off and landing exercises on adjacent highways. Many retired Swiss Hunters were conserved, and several are still flying today as warbirds or are used by private contractors (e.g., Hawker Hunter Aviation) for military training and trials work, simulating adversary aircraft for various NATO air forces.
