@thatweatherboi: Invest 90W is located south of Guam, and is quickly organizing. The system is located over very warm seas, and is under low wind shear with moderate poleward outflow. The disturbance will travel north over the next 24 hours, and is forecast to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm in this timeframe. The name will be Fung-Wong when it becomes a tropical storm, or Uwan, in the Phillipines. ⚠️First impacts⚠️ Tropical storm conditions are expected over Guam from Wednesday afternoon through Friday. Gusts reaching 100km/h (60mph) is possible Wednesday night and Thursday, along with 100 to 200 mm of rainfall. There’s a lot of uncertainty as to when the storm will begin to rapidly intensify, and we hope to break that down in 24 to 36 hours. A few noteworthy factors to remember about this developing situation is that some models (Specifically the HAFS-A) supports the storm reaching extreme intensities of 904 mb, which would mean this could rival recent super hurricane Melissa’s 892mb. And HAFS-A isn’t totally out for lunch here, as GFS projects a peak intensity of 919 mb as well, which is a bit higher but still very severe. Another factor what makes this situation so concerning is that directly in the projected path of Fung-Wong is the Phillipine region of Luzon, which could take a direct hit at, or near, peak intensity (which may be cat 5 equivalent).
