I don’t blame Oz for the remake, there was so much studio interference and he was never able to make the film what he wanted.

I remember loving the Nicole Kidman version but even though I loved it, I thought it very much fanficy. The original definitely made some people extremely uncomfortable especially

It’s been forever since I’ve seen the remake but didn’t it also try to make the MMC a hero / savior even though he had been perfectly fine with everything before that point?

It was obviously changed in production, I would have liked to at least know what the original ending Oz had in mind, even though the general tone meant it could never be what the original was, I would have still liked to know what the original ending was.

Watched the original version last year and it really got me. There is an ultra light version of it going on in many women’s lives, many brilliant female friends suddenly being all about kids, their partner, their house and nothing else.

I’m convinced Oz was trying to make it like Death Becomes Her.

My mom raised my with the original version. I remember being shocked when the 2004 movie came out. I was sixteen and told my friends it was going to be a horror movie and then took them to the movies to see this romp. It’s fine as a romp but when you go in expecting horror it’s pretty jarring

Yes! It is a supposed to be horror film! One of my friends in high school was obsessed with Nicole Kidman, and he loved this film.

I didn’t know Frank Oz directed it! What a shame it’s worse than the original, I thought he would’ve also been able to have his head on straight with a story like this.
