@jakethediseaseecologist: Let’s talk about the removal of barred owls to protect spotted owls #fyp #wildlifebiology #spottedowl #barredowl #wildlifemanagment
You came back talking about my absolute favorite birds, too. Hells yeah.

it seems like it would be difficult to maintain this, even if it could be established.

So I actually feel that it is a necessary “evil”. Spotted owls have a very small niche, while barred owls can survive most places, they’re very adaptable. While the numbers might be a tad high over the 30 year span, I think the overall idea and goal are needed. I also think cutting logging in that area is needed, not just a cull

Does Sen. Kennedy consider the levees in Louisiana to also be a DEI effort to control nature? It’s rich for him to decry such things while expecting to stay above water.

The sensationalized nature of this logical issue is ridiculous. It preys on the emotions of people that are simply ignorant to the ins and outs of wildlife management.

I feel like people are gonna read the title and not the rest, and dismiss the movement as evil when it actually sounds p reasonable to me!

Thanks for sharing the good word on wildlife management strategies lol I take for granted that we had a very specialized undergrad experience and not everyone gets the chance to learn this stuff! It’s always hard to convince people that population control via culls is a scientifically valid option when you are dealing with a charismatic species like an owl. And people generally don’t have the same knee jerk reactions when wildlife managers mention controlling predator populations in the same way.
