That’s the classic dodge — pretending “34 felony counts” somehow doesn’t mean 34 felonies. He was convicted on all 34 counts by a unanimous jury, each one representing a separate falsified business record tied to the same scheme to conceal election interference. The “underlying crime” was the illegal effort to influence the 2016 election by hiding hush money payments and disguising them as legal expenses — that’s why prosecutors charged it as a felony instead of a misdemeanor. You don’t get 34 guilty verdicts by accident, and you don’t call it “wording” when a jury signs off on every single one.

This is a clear indicator of a lack of understanding the law, especially the comments. The crimes he was charged with are a Class E felony (first degree falsifying business documents) in New York. The law wasn’t changed just to prosecute. 34 counts = 34 instances of a felony, therefore 34 felonies. The reason he isn’t in jail is because the courts thought it would be reflect poorly to have a former President barred from the race and gave him an unconditional discharge. Fact is - he was found guilty of 34 felonies, regardless of whether a bunch of random people think he should have been.
