I think you can talk about a real world issue or modern problem and convey it through the allegory of fiction in a much more digestible way to a lot of people.

there are some historical fictions that i’ve read that have taught me so much and i genuinely don’t think i’d sit down to read about wars and colonization in a non-fiction story. fiction is a bit more digestible in my opinion

I had this argument with my aunt when I suggested she allows her kids read fiction, there are so many lessons to learned in fiction and it’s a good starting point for understanding life as a child.

The deeper issue with the “non fiction teaches more” argument is that it reflects a utilitarian bias in how we value knowledge. It assumes learning is only valuable if it’s immediately applicable, measurable, or explicitly informational. But some of the most important things we learn can’t be quantified!!! both no fic and fiction are great. We should all keep reading 😁

Very true, we learn valuable life lessons from fiction more effectively! I also read that fiction helps introduce heavy concepts such as death to kids in a way that’s safer for them to understand from a safer distance
