Actually you speak quite good. I think people just got surprised. And the accent in central and south Viet Nam are different there, so if you go there people have to think a little to understand

Maybe we Vietnamese are just so strict about tones in any situation, you have to pronounce the tones correctly, or no one will understand you. The same applies to Vietnamese songs as well

same problem over here.. my tip: learn some slang words... use them on a funny way and the people will try to understand your vietnamese! the problem is they not expect you speak vietnamese! with slang words they will be more interested in you.. thats helps me a lot! and iam a white long nose😉

Tip: u need to learn pronounce the mark on word there are 4 mark because foreigner when speak Vietnamese they dont pronouce the mark on the word so that why we barely hear it eventhought we still recognize it

I think your pronounciation sounds a bit soft, it is not sharp enough. So it is not that they dont understand, they are just not used to it. But good work anyway
