@nuclearinsiders: Coal causes around 800,000 to 1 million deaths per year worldwide from air pollution, mining accidents, and respiratory illness. That’s roughly 15,000-20,000 deaths per week globally. #nuclearinsider #nuclearpower #nuclearenegy

The Cernobyl nuclear disaster caused around 200 000 deaths. Did you count that in ?

statistically, that's just cuz there's more coal than nuclear, but percentage wise nuclear is still safer, just want to point out the error in it but I still love nuclear

fun fact: Coal produces more radioactive waste than. nuclear energy as of today due to the low amounts of radioactive materials in ash!

the only problem for nuclear is how expensive it is or it gets in between a war.

I don't think it's worth to make this argument, I don't think any people actually argue that coal is better than nuclear. The real debate is wind/solar/nuclear

btw, russia (communism) is known for it's cost reductions in absolutely anything. Same with chernobyl and kyshtym power plants that have been a simple yet catastrophic disasters. Fukushima on the other hand, was well designed but caused by a 9.0 earthquake which caused a massive tsunami. The water basically wiped out the cooling systems and power (even backup generators) which meant the reactor couldnt be cooled down or even controlled in any way. This obviously meant a meltdown. But Japan is such an incredible country that they completely washed the whole town, cars, even grass and trees, that today Fukushima is habitable again.

A 1978 study by ORNL showed that estimated radiation doses ingested by people living near the coal plants were equal to or higher than doses for people living around nuclear facilities. At one extreme, the scientists estimated fly ash radiation in individuals' bones at around 18 millirems (thousandths of a rem, a unit for measuring doses of ionizing radiation) a year. Doses for the two nuclear plants, by contrast, ranged from between three and six millirems for the same period. yea even if there are more coal plants and coal, in per plant or per unit of fuel used to the ratio of deaths is still WAY lower in nuclear than in coal. People around the world die everyday because of the deadly gases made during the burning of coal in power plants, and the only time people die during nuclear is during the Chernobyl and fukushima daichi and few times randomly due to some errors
