Today’s homeschool field trip we walked the same grounds George Washington once walked, stepping through the original home, kitchen, and gardens.. real rooms and objects preserved from the 1700s! But what hit deepest was learning about the hundreds of enslaved men, women, and children who lived and worked here the ones who built, maintained, and sustained this estate, yet whose names and stories were often left in the shadows. We learned about their daily lives, the brutal conditions, and how even in the heart of this grand home, human suffering was part of its foundation. 💔 It’s a heavy truth one that’s painful but necessary to face and teach. Because history isn’t meant to be comfortable; it’s meant to be understood and studied!! When we looked out over the grounds and imagined their lives, it reminded us that this wasn’t all that long ago just a few generations back, really. Time softens the edges, but not the reality. The agenda to push these teachings out of classrooms like it never existed like it never happened is sick. Every generation should be taught the history of what America was built on.. the good, the bad, and the ugly. Days like this remind me why I am homeschooling learning through experience, seeing history with our own eyes, and having the space to talk honestly about it all. 📚✨ #homeschooling #homeschoolmom #History #historical #thetruth
