Players are doing less off the cuff these days. You see less goals from 25+ yards or players dribbling past 2/3 players. But that’s probably more to do with goalkeepers and defenders being better, too.

Yamal, Doue, Ekitike, Kvara, Raphinha, Mbappe, Jude, Palmer, Musiala, Doku, Cunha and a lot more. Bale is my favourite player ever but people hold him a lot higher than they did when he was playing, I remember 10 years ago people were saying this exact same thing. It's just Nostalgia

Lads. Go and watch Arsenal Barcelona 2011 UCL first leg. Watch Arsenals defending that game. Defending is a lot better now, a lot. I’m not talking about individuals but on a team level. Easy to get people off of their feet when there’s 50 meters between your midfield and defensive line

I can't remember Zidane getting criticism, but Neymar wasn't as good as people said, obviously outstanding but not in the same league as the top Brazilian players

I think the fact that the only ‘system’ working so far in 25/26 is arteta set pieces shows you we’ve moved past broader systems and now back to the strength in attacking players. Managers at top clubs don’t have time to implement Guardiola at Barca esque systems.

I don't get why it's so bad that a team can be greater than the sum of its parts . Sure in some games a player needs to step up and win it but the team sport becoming more about the team is a good thing I think tbh

It’s also a product of too much football and too much access to football now. The majority of people watching Zidane 20 years ago were generally only seeing highlights and maybe watching him live 5 times a year. Easy to look good that way
