@authorarabellak.federico: ✨️6 Things every author needs to remember when you feel like you don't care✨️ 1-Other Author's Highlight Reels Aren't As Real As They Seem Remember that when you're looking at another author who seems to "Have it all." You're looking at a curated feed. Their highlight reel isn't as perfect as you think, it's simply made to APPEAR that way. The comparison game will suck the life out of you. 2- Burn-Out Doesn't Mean You've Given Up Sometimes doing too much, caring too much, can have the opposite effect. Going so hard on your author career can leave you feeling like you've ran a marathon backwards. Taking a step back to re-evaluate doesn't mean you're giving up or quitting. Allowing yourself a break from all the pressure and anxiety of this job isn't just okay—it’s nessisary. 3-Not Marketing Or Writing Isn't Weakness If you're anything like me, you're caught in a constant shame-guilt cycle of negative self-talk. It's not a weakness to experience those thoughts, but it's also not a weakness to simply not market or write or do something for your business every single day. Sometimes you gotta just let it go for a little while. 4-Perfectionism Is Self-Sabotage In Disguise Fighting to be the perfect author—and then not obtaining it (cuz it's impossible)—isn't a flaw within you, it's a subconscious trap keeping you small, stuck, and sad. Perfectionism drives you towards an unobtainable goal, so when you don't achieve it, it gets to say, "See! SEE! You're not GOOD ENOUGH!" But it's a trap to keep you small because deep down, you're afraid to be seen. (Me, too.) Seeing perfectionism for what it truly is will free you from it. 6-Protect Your Mental Health First This job is HARD. Writing, marketing, branding, social media, readers...It all piles on. You CAN and should say no when you want to. Stay off social media. Don't read your reviews. Stop replying to comments & DMs if you don't have the bandwidth. Authors now adays are expected to be "on" and available 24/7, but that's not a realistic expectation and no reader, no matter how much they love and support you, has unfettered access to you whenever they please. 6-Your Authorpenuer Spark Will Return Watch some new movies, read the book that made you fall in love with writing. Spend time outside with people. I know this is income for many of us, but when you take care of YOU, your business will come back stronger, and so will your passion. You'll write again. You'll get your inspiration back. It's never lost, you just need to re-fill your depleted well. 🌙If you're a working author or an aspiring one, this job can be so hard and isolating at times. You're not alone. If you need more help, please reach out to a trusted person in your life or a licensed health professional. Getting help is NOT a stigma, it is NOT weak, and you deserve to feel peace in your own head. #indieauthors #indieauthor #authors #publishing #writingadvice
