I'll never forget my heart shatter as my mom scraped a dish clean into the trash can. She looked at me and asked why I was crying. I told her, "I can hear Brutus' heart shatter on the other side, screaming that was his." The one left behind refuses to eat human food at all now. With the others gone, he doesn't care for it.
