I really don't think it's normal to hit a small child, not even with a slipper. That's a real sign of helplessness on the part of adults. I find it truly sad to see. And in the Netherlands, it's illegal. Educational value: Even if a hit is intended to unlearn something, it's considered a harmful parenting method in the Netherlands.

Children need both! Our mom raised us with unconditional love but she carried also a switch from a tree for discipline in her hand, everywhere we went like Park, playground etc. It worked 😉
