@iamthatenglishteacher: Have you ever seen a sentence that just felt like it needed a pause at the beginning? That’s where introductory prepositional phrases come in. I told my students the story of a student from my first year teaching who reminded me that if the phrase at the beginning of a sentence is non-essential, we separate it with a comma. So today, we identified prepositional phrases, built sentences, practiced the pause, and—because learning should be joyful—I even threw in a little rhyme at the end.
