I think there are too many status games to really win all of them. There’s plenty of jobs that pay much more and are much higher slope than Google in NYC. I think that’s good actually, it’s nice to touch grass and see different status games get played

the status game (in nyc at least) is also largely based on the cultural capital you possess (knowledge, experience, hobbies). if you’re not interesting and don’t have the means to continuously expand your cultural capital, people don’t bother interacting with you
