A few months ago I ordered a CGM off Amazon “for science,” just to see what my blood sugars were doing throughout the day. I had no idea it would actually help my doctors diagnose me with reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia basically means my blood sugar drops too low after eating or when I’m disconnected from my TPN. My stomach is paralyzed and doesn’t digest food normally, so my body doesn’t process sugar the way it’s supposed to. Sometimes it plummets out of nowhere, and I get shaky, dizzy, nauseous, or feel like I’m about to pass out. Having the CGM data helped my doctors see exactly what was happening — all the dips, the patterns, and how quickly my sugar crashes once I’m off my TPN. It’s one of the many reasons I have to be careful and why disconnecting isn’t as simple as just unhooking for a few hours.
