Here in Toronto all mosques provide dinner 30 days during Ramadan and I know some of them provide food every night to 700-1000 persons.

Charity is not optional in Islam, it's obligatory and 1 of 5 pillars of Islam. 1- Shahada( declaration of faith). 2- Salah (Prayer) 3- Sawm ( Fasting Ramadan) 4- Zakat ( Charity) 5- Haj ( pilgrimage to Makkah if you could).
