Korra’s results came back today, and I really wish I had amazing news. The good news is that it’s not cancer. The hard part is that we’re now $6,000 into this process and basically back at square one with no real answers yet. Emotionally, I’m exhausted and overwhelmed. Polycythemia is back on the table, but we still don’t know if it’s true polycythemia vera or something else mimicking it. The only definitive way to diagnose that would be a bone marrow biopsy, but her vet doesn’t want to jump to that yet. She wants to stabilize a couple of other things first and see how Korra responds before moving forward. What we do know is this: her blood became so thick that it wasn’t supplying her stomach and GI tract properly, which caused some tissue damage (necrosis). That explains a lot of her recent GI issues. We just don’t know yet whether true polycythemia caused this or if something else is behind it. For now, Korra is on a very strict medication schedule for the foreseeable future while we work toward more solid answers. I’m so tired, and I just wish one of these calls would finally be good news. I had originally closed donations because the vet was hopeful we’d get clear answers and a more affordable treatment path. But I’ve reopened it because I genuinely don’t know how I’m going to cover the rest of her care from here. I’m scared for her and just want her to be okay. Thank you to everyone who has supported her so far.. it means more than I can ever express.
