I honestly think it would look better with a two five lane highways going around it with the cathedral as the center piece. Maybe build a Dairy Queen or Arby’s next to it on the closest exit. Just my two cents from an American

in my country Croatia, in Split they cleaned the cathedral of saint domnius using laser machines that burned of the debris without harming the outside stone (also limestone) or inside ceiling murals which they also cleaned and revived with laser machine… there is a way, just wondering if it’s worth it for this much intricate details on the outside

it's soot/grime from the bombing in WW2, same here in Dresden, you can't get that out of the stone without damaging it
