I would prefer buying rabbit pelts that are from meat rabbits than rabbits raised just for their fur. To me that is more respectful to the animal.

People forget that the meaning of “ethical” can vary from person to person. What you see as ethical may be seen as abuse or something in someome else’s eyes. This is why I preach asking “where/how it’s sourced” instead of asking “if it’s ethical”. That way you get the exact answer you want and can make your own decisions based on your morals.

When I say "ethical," I mean that I want the animal to have a decent life while alive and be processed as humanely as possible. No need for unnecessary suffering and for as much of them to be used as possible.

If you want a single pelt is sounds reasonable to find it from a pet that passed away naturally but they can’t expect that many by their definition of ethical. Idk what they expect talking to a farmer either

My mother and a aunt spent over an hour telling me how cruel hunting is and asked me why I just didn't buy meat from the store. After the lecture, they both asked if I got a deer, could they have some of the meat. They were both upset when I told them no.

I think the craziest thing is when I say my dad is a sheep farmer, people spring into the "Can he sell my half a cow!!!" I didnt know sheep can transfigure into half cows, I never heard of a half cow, weird breed.

someone asked why I bought a fox tail Keychain and a fox face. I thought they were pretty and I got them from a lady who makes things like hats and mittens out of the animals her husband traps. he works with farmers to trap nuisance animals in the area. she doesn't have much use for the faces or the tails so she makes Keychain from the tails and just sells the faces for like $3. I have both up on my wall rn because I liked them

If it helps, there are animal sanctuaries where the animals live and at the time they naturally reach the end of their life, they utilize the fur, bones, etc. ❤️

that's why it's ethical sourcing. you know exactly how the animals lived (their best lives) and meat rabbits are often bigger, so you get more pelt from each one.

I had an entire thread like this happen on messenger over chicken feathers…. I stated that we don’t pull their feathers while they are alive because that would be cruel. But we try to use every possible part of the bird afterwards. I had to block the person because the conversation just kept going in this weird circle about 💀 chickens is unethical
