Google has just announced a major breakthrough in the world of quantum computing. For the first time in HISTORY,  they’ve demonstrated that a quantum computer can successfully run a verifiable algorithm, 13,000x faster than leading supercomputers. But. Why is this important? I mean, haven’t we heard the same announcement like 10 times already before? Well, this one's different. It’s the first time, that’s is verifiable. Meaning, you get a consistent, reproducible result. So, in theory – this could actually lead towards real-world applications, like discovering new medicines or materials. So how does it work? Basically they ran a special “echo”-type experiment that involves sending in a signal, reversing things, and then measuring how the system responds. Think of it like this. Imagine you drop a stone in a pond and then after a while you reverse the ripples so they all come back to the stone. In this example, the pond is a bunch of qubits interacting. And the stone drop represents a signal that they send. They then look at how the ripples interfere with each other. If the system is designed just right, many of those ripples line up perfectly — and their effects add up, making the returning echo stronger and clearer. Which is called constructive interference happening at the quantum level. Because the system is so complex, a normal computer would need an ungodly amount of time to predict what the ripples will do, but the quantum machine does it directly. That’s what’s called the quantum advantage, which Google, as of right now now, has superiority over. Now there is debate in the quantum community, whether this is all just marketing speak or a real step towards quantum supremacy. I’m merely an enthusiast, certainly not an expert, so I am definitely not smart enough to weight in. But at the very worse, this means more excitement and funding for physics research, which I think is a great thing. #google #ai #quantum #Tech #quantumcomputing
