I've wanted to recommend The Locked Tomb books to you but now I'm hesitant because I know how spoilery the fandom is. Does it help that it uses the motifs of fanfiction in interesting ways? (it's practically Homestuck fanfiction)

I will often follow authors into new fandoms. or pick up series because there is a lot of fic in a niche tag I find interesting. I actually read the things. I was attracted by the fan content but that is not all I am there for. very occasionally this backfires. I really wanted to get into one piece because an author i love and was writing in it and a ship was using a tag I really like a lot. I watched the whole thing and do not ship that thing at all. but it's fine because I like the series and mainly read gen fics anyhow and there's a lot of really good gen in that fandom.

I look at source material the same as I look at UNO; they gave us the original, and then fandom takes it from there and makes it better. 😅

I’m knee deep in True Blood, Vampire Diaries, and Teen Wolf fanfiction & I haven’t watched the shows. Tho I do now own the Sookie Stackhouse books and am reading them sooo 🤣
