Skinamarink. I saw it in the theater and it was one of the worst movie going experiences ever and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. It’s the perfect encapsulation of the feeling of a misremembered nightmare as a child. I hate it and love it.

I'd also put Possum (2018) up there, the whole film feels like a PTSD fuelled nightmare

I loooove The Green Knight, one of my top 4 faves. One of the first, if not the first, poem/story to feature a main character who was such a terrible person, with zero redeeming qualities. Desperate for glory and knighthood, yet didn’t have an ounce of chivalry in his body. Just consistently making bad choices and being selfish and somehow still thinking he’s going to emerge a hero 😩

Dude! I loved this list, but, The Nightmare! The scariest movie ever and it’s a documentary! It’s about sleep paralysis disorder, and how everyone who experiences it sees the same person tormenting them. It’s horrifying!

Phil Tippet's Mad God. Absolute nightmare surrealism in the very best possible way.

Jacob’s Ladder yessss. Also Peter Greenaway, real kooky storytelling in especially Prospero’s Books, worth a look, even if it’s not straight out nightmare and rather just dreamscape.

Mother! is a perfect nightmare of a movie. I've become extremely desensitized to horror, but it had me feeling anxious through the entire run. Still can't bring myself to rewatch it.
