They are being forcefully removed from their own country.Gift of the Givers is a humanitarian organisation their mandate is to help anyone in crisis. This shouldn’t come as a shock. When we as South Africans benefit from their aid, no one complains. But the moment they assist asylum seekers people fleeing danger by the way, not arriving here by choice suddenly it’s an issue. No one is asking you to house anyone, give up your job, or hand over your money. Gift of the Givers stepped in because that’s what humanitarian organisations do. And with someone as principled as Dr Imtiaz Sooliman leading the work, you can be sure the proper channels are being engaged to ensure these individuals are documented and supported. Acknowledging their humanity does not mean endorsing illegal entry. Context matters. My disappointment is with people misdirecting their anger at vulnerable individuals instead of holding the government accountable for failing on resource allocation, border control, and basic governance.
