@la_history_girl: AD│Did you know that Ireland is the birthplace of Halloween? 🎃 Long before trick or treat, the ancient Celts of Ireland were celebrating Samhain, the festival for the ending of the harvest and the welcoming of winter. It’s the very celebration that would become the Halloween we know and love today. Unlike the single day we have to celebrate here in the States, in Ireland, the season is celebrated over the course of a week with various festivals all over the island. Here are the 4 you do NOT want to miss. 🎃 @derryhalloween, Northern Ireland - The largest Halloween festival in Europe takes over the ancient walled city. During the day, it’s a wholesome family event, and by night, the legends from Irish folklore take to the streets. Parades, banshees, and performers fill the cozy streets with fright and mischief. It was quite literally the largest and coolest Halloween party I’ve ever been to.  🎃 @pucafestivalireland, County Meath - If you’re looking to experience the true and historic roots of Halloween, Samhain, then you’re going to need to visit the Puca festival. From the harvest market, where you can try traditional food, to lighting the ancestral fire, this is truly where myth and history unite.  🎃 Bram Stoker Festival, Dublin - Dublin’s own literary vampire is celebrated in this mult-day event with a parade, performances, and dark circus. It’s the exact kind of celebration I think Bram would approve of.  🎃 Toil & Trouble, Kilkenny - Learn all about the only witch burning in Ireland in this medieval city.
