@independent: Donald Trump has confirmed he will still be suing the BBC, despite the public-funded broadcaster apologising for an edit made to one of his speeches in a Panorama episode. Aboard Air Force One on Friday night (November 14), the US president told reporters: “We’ll sue them for anywhere between $1bn and $5bn, probably sometime next week. We have to do it.” Click the link in bio for more 🔗
The man just spews lawsuits to intimidate and silence those he disagrees with.

The mayor of London should sue Donald Trump for defamation following his baseless claim that the mayor was transforming London into a city under Sharia law.

To prove defamation you have to show that your reputation has been damaged. Trump’s reputation is in tatters - he is a convicted felon, and much more. UK law (both English/Welsh and Scottish) does not allow for punitive damages. Proceedings brought in the UK would never succeed. Proceedings in the US are very unlikely to be successful and even if they were enforcing a judgement against a UK organisation would be very difficult. The Beeb apologise. Trump needs to accept it and zip it.

I hope he does sue them but knowing our government they will rise the BBC tv licence fee to about £500 to help the bbc recover

If he sues it may bring up the facts of 2020 again. I’m no lawyer but it happened during just before the election in 2024. Where is the loss? Trump claims ‘ we won in a landslide’. So how does he prove loss? And the principle that he incited? Does anyone deny he incited? He pardoned the people responsible

@paul.stewart_live: He has a case in the UK for defamation by the BBC if he can prove the Panarama program caused a negative effect on his golf course businesses in Scotland 🏴

Such a ridiculous compensation would never be enforced in the UK. A sensible figure might be about £100,000.
