Lumberyards inspect for quality. HD & Lowes associates accept all materials. So reject materials typically get sold to the big box stores.

I used to work at a mill. there is grade A lumber and goes down from there. so its all about what that store brings in wherever you buy it from

I won’t get lumber there anymore. I shop at my local home hardware the quality is amazing.

They cut lumber all year round and this is the results. To have the best lumber you need to cut it on a new moon so the sap is all in the roots. For hardwood lumber it’s best to cut the tree on the first new moon of February
