@elianajalali: Big Island Day 2 // Black Sand Beach & Hilo We started off the day heading North to Pololu Valley. This was a beautiful black sand beach at the bottom of a mountain. The hike down is very muddy and rocky, plus you have to cross a river to get to it. You cannot swim at this beach, it’s super dangerous, but it’s absolutely worth the trek down. Save your water for the hike up because the incline is basically straight up. Then we started making our way down to Hilo. We stopped for some coconuts on the way down to Akaka Falls, a beautiful waterfall. On our way to the Hilo Farmers Market we stopped for a quick bite at 7/11, then had Kula Shaved Ice for dessert. The last stop of the day was the Kaumana Lava Caves. It’s super slippery and dark so be well prepared. Then it was time for dinner and bed! I’ll see you tomorrow!
