@kathleen.ganley3: We don’t need a committee of UCP members to tell us classrooms are over crowded. The UCP just need to pay attention to reality. #ableg
This job has fallen on teachers and administrators. Thursday after school, we were told that we had to fill out a form for every single class we teach to indicate the number of students we have, the number of students who have specialized plans, the number of students who should have a specialized plan but don’t for whatever reason, the number of aggressive students, and the number of EAL students. I teach 8 classes. Our phys ed teachers teach at least 15 classes if not more. Even our elementary teachers need to fill out a form for each of the subjects that they teach their class. And it’s due Tuesday.

The committee of politicians will be ineffective. Listen to teachers!!! These conditions are a choice by this government. Shame on the UCP.

I'm pretty sure every school could tell the government exactly what resources they are requiring. A committee or study is likely not required just ask the school divisions.

A new committee. Right. Let’s not listen to the people who actually know what’s going on, eg. the teachers…

Given the “3000 new teachers” won’t help the existing students in the system but are simply for future growth, nothing will improve. No child is hurt by having a small classroom, so his fear of sending a teacher to an area where they “aren’t needed” is nonsense. Every single child benefits from smaller classes. Smaller classes also mean fewer EAs and external supports needed for borderline kids.

The 2025 report teachers are using to say student funding is the lowest is using numbers from 2013 to 2023. That same report says Alberta was initially the highest per student and in 2023 paid the 3rd highest on schools. The lowest per student funding in those 10 years was during NDP rule, but nobody talks about that. Danielle Smith became Premier in October 2022. UCP started negotiations with teachers in 2023. The recent offer addressed everything but class sizes, which school boards and schools could midigate on their own.
