Part of the problem is our older generation were raised to genuinely believe everything they read. There was no internet, they got their information from sources like the newspaper, encyclopedias, book, ect. Those were generally reliable, so everything they read was assumed to at least be honest. Now, when they see misinformation online, they dont question it. They're not programmed to question it, they spent their lives not having to question sources because often they were already getting their information from reliable sources (like a newspaper).
